MOQ Guide for Custom Dice Orders

MOQ Guide for Custom Dice Orders

MOQ (minimum order quantity) is the smallest number of units a factory will produce for a given design. For custom dice it is driven mainly by tooling, setup, and material costs, and it varies a lot by material.

Why MOQ exists

Custom dice require molds or machining setup, color matching, and QC. These fixed costs are spread across the order, so very small runs have a high cost per unit. MOQ keeps each order economically viable for both sides.

Typical MOQ by material

  • Resin / acrylic dice: from ~200 sets
  • Metal dice: from ~100 sets
  • Gemstone dice: from ~50 sets
  • Custom packaging: often a separate MOQ (e.g. ~300 pcs)

What affects your MOQ

Number of colors, custom engravings, special finishes (plating, glitter), and packaging all influence MOQ. More customization usually means a higher minimum because of additional setup.

How to keep your first order affordable

Start with one or two colorways instead of many, order a sample before committing, and combine designs that share tooling. As volume grows, unit price drops — so plan your reorder strategy early.

Frequently asked questions

What is the lowest MOQ for custom dice?

Gemstone sets can start as low as ~50 sets, metal from ~100, and resin/acrylic from ~200. Exact minimums depend on customization.

Can I order a sample before the full run?

Yes. Most factories produce a paid sample so you can approve color, finish, and engraving before committing to the MOQ.

Does MOQ apply per design or per color?

It usually applies per design/colorway, because each color needs its own mixing and setup. Combining fewer colors lowers your total minimum.
