Custom D&D Dice: Numbering, Symbols, and Logo Engraving Options

Custom D&D Dice: Numbering, Symbols, and Logo Engraving Options

The faces are where a D&D dice set becomes a brand. Beyond color and material, the numbering, symbols, ink, and logo work decide how custom — and how recognizable — your set really is. Here are the main options for customizing dice faces for Dungeons & Dragons and other tabletop RPGs.

Number styles and fonts

You can choose the numeral style and font for the full 7-piece set, from clean and modern to ornate or themed. The key constraint is legibility at dice scale — very thin or highly decorative fonts can be hard to read on smaller faces, so the factory may suggest adjustments.

Custom symbols instead of numbers

Faces do not have to be numerals. Many brands and games use custom symbols — runes, icons, class marks, or themed glyphs — in place of some or all numbers. This is common for game-specific dice; just confirm the face values still map correctly to the intended results.

Logo placement (the signature 20)

The most popular branding move is replacing the highest face — the 20 on the d20 — with your logo or icon, keeping the rest numbered. Logos can also go on the largest faces of other dice. Provide vector artwork and keep the mark simple enough to reproduce cleanly at small size.

Engraving and printing methods

  • Engraving (laser or CNC) — recessed faces, durable, ideal for metal and gemstone
  • Molded faces — formed during casting for resin dice
  • Pad printing — applies a printed mark to the surface
  • Laser marking — fine detail on metal and stone

Ink fill and contrast

Engraved or molded faces are filled (inked) with a contrasting color so the numbers read clearly. Ink choice is a real design lever: a metallic gold fill on dark stone, a bright fill on translucent resin, or a tone-on-tone subtle look. Contrast is what keeps the set playable, not just pretty.

Frequently asked questions

Can I replace the 20 with my logo?

Yes. Replacing the highest face — the 20 on the d20 — with a logo or icon while keeping the other faces numbered is the most popular branding option. Logos can also go on the largest faces of other dice.

What artwork format should I provide for engraving?

Vector artwork (AI, EPS, SVG, or PDF) reproduces best because it scales cleanly. Keep logos and symbols simple — very thin lines or tiny text may not render well at dice size.

Can I use custom symbols instead of numbers?

Yes. Runes, icons, class marks, or themed glyphs can replace some or all numerals, which is common for game-specific dice. Just confirm the face values still map to the intended results.
